We invite educators supporting student instruction in grades K-12 to apply to be a members of this year's Information and AI Teacher Advisory Council.
Program Description
This K-12 engagement program equips educators with resources to utilize our in-depth reporting on Information and Artificial Intelligence as a tool that informs critical conversations around questions of AI ethics and accountability in their learning communities. The program recognizes that, as target audiences for many AI tools, educators and students can offer meaningful contributions to the ongoing work of addressing the challenges and opportunities in AI development. This is particularly true in the case of the predictive and surveillance tools deployed in classrooms and other learning environments. In order to effectively facilitate these critical conversations within their learning communities, educators need support developing their own awareness of AI Accountability and directly engaging in conversations about AI Ethics in the education space.
2026 AI Council members will work together to explore the ways journalism can inform classroom conversations and teaching practices that hold AI accountable. Council Members will take a project-based approach to the work, applying an AI Accountability lens to plan and implement a project in their communities.
All Council projects must utilize AI Accountability journalism to engage at least 60 students, educators, and/or parents in a critical conversation about the use of AI technologies in school environments. Council Members will have the option to:
- Develop a school or classroom AI policy and facilitate community conversation around its implementation
- Design and facilitate a space for community conversation (involving teachers, students, and parents) about the risks and impacts of AI technologies in the classroom space
- Propose their own project/model for meeting program criteria.
Council Expectations
Council Members will participate in five evening workshops to explore news stories about Information and Artificial Intelligence, connect with Pulitzer Center-supported journalists reporting on AI accountability, and use Pulitzer Center education frameworks as tools in their collaborative discussions about the opportunities and challenges for K-12 schools and classrooms seeking to apply an AI Accountability lens to their technological practice. Over the course of the program, Council Members will be expected to:
- Apply by March 15th with a critical question about AI technologies in education that can anchor their project and community conversation
- Use data from audience research, resources created by the previous AI Teacher Advisory Councils, and AI Accountability reporting to further inform their exploration of the anchor question
- Develop a community engagement project that utilizes AI Accountability as a lens for critical dialogue
- Implement their project by facilitating a critical AI conversation in their classrooms or school community
- Demonstrate the impact of the project on the learning environment through photos, videos, quotes, and/or reflections
- Present their learning and impact as a part of a public-facing showcase on August 29, 2026.
Compensation
Upon successful completion of the program, Council members will be provided with:

Thank for your interest to the AI Spotlight Series. Welcome to the Track 3: An Editor's Guide to Covering AI application page.
This 90-minute interactive training session, led by Bina Venkataraman, is designed for managing editors, executive editors, desk editors, social media editors -- anyone in charge of directing coverage, commissioning stories, or packaging and producing them for public consumption.
We will identify different types of AI stories and dissect what sets apart the best coverage, including its framing, headline, and artwork. You’ll learn to assess pitches and filed stories and avoid common pitfalls that can mislead or confuse an audience (or an editor). There will be opportunities to ask questions, trade tips, and have a lively discussion among fellow newsroom decision-makers.
To allow maximum interaction between the coaches and the editors, we will cap the maximum number of trainees to 35-40 journalists. During the application review, we consider, among others, the applicants' time zone, their role in the newsroom, and their motivation or reason for joining the training.
Kindly note that this session is about reporting on AI, and not about using AI for journalistic purposes. Apply by March 16, 2026.

Southeast Asia
Guidelines
Regions: Countries in Southeast Asia
Key Topics: Rainforest, Ocean, Transparency & Governance
The Pulitzer Center Impact Seed Fund (ISF) supports educational and engagement initiatives working with issues highlighted in the Pulitzer Center-supported journalism, addressing the most critical issues confronting our planet's ecosystems and communities. The 2026 Southeast Asia ISF focuses on a range of topics, including Rainforest, Ocean and Transparency & Governance.
Impact Seed Fund (ISF) is a microscale grant provided by the Pulitzer Center to support education, research, or scientific activities with the aim to enrich the perspectives and knowledge within the university community—specifically students and educators. ISF facilitates a deeper understanding of complex problems and encourages the exploration of solutions and innovations to address the impact of human activities on rainforests, oceans, and the climate crisis.
We aim to support projects that inspire changes in perspectives, narratives, and actions, fostering a more informed and empathetic community. By utilizing Pulitzer Center-supported stories, the ISF initiative aims to:
- Improve the awareness and critical thinking of students and educators about complex issues related to tropical forests, oceans, climate crisis, including their impacts on vulnerable communities. It encourages members of the university community to explore innovative solutions to address these impacts.
- Equip students and educators to take action and drive change to protect the environment, as well as the rights of those most affected by environmental destruction.
Utilizing stories as the center of the proposed projects: The Pulitzer Center’s different programs have produced journalism stories that bring to light local perspectives, often from voices that are rarely heard. These reports focus on underreported stories and situations that are crucial to better understand the challenges around tropical forests, climate change and ocean. These reports produce high-quality visuals, in-depth analysis, and data resources capable of conveying complex issues in a powerful and digestible way, making them excellent educational and communications tools. As such, they can generate important inputs for ISF-funded projects. All proposals must utilize at least one story reported by Pulitzer Center-supported journalists and explain how it will be relevant in the project.
Who can apply?
- Applicants should be university professors or researchers based in an institution
